Stem cells (simplified) are cells in the body that are responsible for making various cells in the body. But, during Chemotherapy, the are destroyed and the body is reduced of its immunity. This means that the person will fall ill very fast. This is a dangerous situation for anyone. In the past, the stem cells had been taken by a large needle injected to the pelvis and the cells were thus extracted. Today the procedure is fairly simple, the body is injected with a medicine to produce larger quantities of stem cells than usual and this is extracted with a machine.
