Thank you for taking time to view SAHITA. You are just six steps towards saving someone's life. This could be yours or your friend's or relatives or someone you will never meet in life. The whole idea of South Asian Help Initiative in Treatment Awareness is to support Cancer treatment and to demystify the doubts in the south asian community in the UK on Cancer treatments available.
Is there a treatment for cancer ?
Yes and No
But it will not come into full effect until it involves killing the damaged cells from multiplying. This is done through chemotherapy. The disadvantage of chemotherapy is that even your good cells die. So, the only way is to replenish the stem cells that make good cells. But sometimes, the "capacity" to generate new stem cells are so low that we need donors to give their cells.
Are their not enough donors and companies world wide that help cancer patients?
Well, Yes and (mainly) No
There are a large number of organisations and cancer treatment centers that make this cure possible to many, EXCEPT ASIANS. This is because, there are elements in the cells called antigens that have to match. The closer the person is related to you, the better the match, but sometimes, the closest family members will not be a match. This means, it has to be someone from the community, and ethnic group and region and so on. For Asian community, the donors are so rare and many times people have no hope to get donors. See Aneesa's story in the video below.
Who can donate?

There are 2 methods, one is something like in form of dialysis and other in a manner of injecting a needle. Here is Andy Mitchell a donor telling his experience. Here are a lot of videos each 1 minute or long showing actual PBSC transplant . The other method is slightly painful as you get two needle to your pelvis. DO NOT WORRY!
